Career Guidance Or Career Counselling

Technology is getting evolved day by day, as a result new fields and industries have emerged. To keep up these changes it becomes essential to create new courses for the future workforce. As students become more interested in specialized subjects, schools and universities have created new courses to meet these needs and provide students with in-depth knowledge in specific areas.

Most of the students are not aware of the career opportunities available for them. Choosing a career becomes very difficult for most of the students due to lack of awareness and guidance from school, institutes and even parents. Here comes the process of career guidance or career counselling.

Career guidance is the process which involves providing information, advice and support to individuals to help them make informed decisions about their education, training, career options and developing a plan for achieving their career aspirations. Extracurricular activities can play an important role in career guidance by providing students with valuable experiences and skills that can inform their career goals and aspirations.

Career counselling  is a more in-depth process that includes career assessment tests and psychological assessment tests that involves a trained professional helping individuals to explore their interests, values, skills and experiences, and to identify and resolve any career-related issues or obstacles they may be facing. Career assessment test evaluates the student’s strengths, weaknesses, interests, personality traits, aptitude and capabilities. Psychological assessment tests on the other hand are used to diagnose mental health conditions, such as anxiety or depression, or to provide information about an individual’s strengths and challenges in areas such as memory, attention, and problem-solving.

Why career guidance or career counselling is so important for students?

  • Students could explore their interests, skills, and values to make informed career decisions.
  • To get an idea about various career options available to them.
  • Have a clear plan for reaching their career goals and acquire the necessary skills and knowledge.
  • Have a clear idea of trends and changes in the job market.
  • Overcome any personal or academic barriers that may impact their career path.

Overall, career guidance or career counseling gives the confidence to the students that they make informed and confident decisions about their future, and sets them on a path towards a fulfilling and successful career.
